Arabian Jasmine: Queen of Fragrant Nights

Arabian Jasmine (Jasminum sambac) is a shrubby flowering plant that can be climbing, trailing, or erect. It is also known as Gundumalli, Malligai, or Tuscan Jasmine. The leaves can be opposite or alternate, simple, trifoliate, or pinnate. Its fragrant flowers are typically white and grow in clusters. J. sambac is commercially propagated through terminal and semi-hardwood cuttings. The flowers are used to make garlands and perfumes and flavor tea. It is grown in warm climates.

Physical Characteristics

This evergreen shrub grows as a compact bush or climbing vine, reaching heights of 3-6 feet. The glossy, dark green leaves provide a perfect backdrop for the star-shaped flowers, which unfold from spiral buds into layers of pure white petals.
